Modern Slavery Statement

Our commitment to assessing and addressing the risks of modern slavery, human trafficking, and forced labour in our operations and supply chains in Nigeria.

This statement is made on behalf of Shelter Nest Realty and sets out the steps we have taken to assess and address the risks of modern slavery, human trafficking, and forced labour in our operations and supply chains in Nigeria.

While Nigeria does not currently have a specific Modern Slavery Act, we voluntarily adopt this statement as part of our commitment to ethical business practices, human rights, and corporate responsibility.

1. Introduction

2. Our Commitment

Shelternest Realty is committed to ensuring that there is no modern slavery, human trafficking, or forced labour in any part of our business or supply chains. We hold ourselves to the highest standards of professional conduct and expect the same from everyone we work with.

3. Our Organisation & Supply Chains

Shelter Nest Realty is a Nigerian real estate firm offering property sales, leasing, valuations, development, and facility management services.

We Work With:

  • Independent contractors and consultants (e.g., surveyors, lawyers, cleaners, security guards)
  • Maintenance and repair service providers
  • Technology and software vendors
  • Construction and renovation partners

We recognise that sectors such as security, cleaning, maintenance, and construction may carry a higher risk of exploitative labour practices.

4. Our Policies

We Have Implemented the Following Internal Policies to Prevent Modern Slavery:

  • Ethical Procurement Policy – Guides how we select and manage suppliers
  • Whistleblowing Policy – Allows employees and suppliers to report concerns confidentially
  • Anti-Bribery and Corruption Policy – Reinforces our commitment to integrity
  • Human Resources Policies – Cover fair pay, right-to-work checks, and non-discrimination

These policies are reviewed regularly and shared with all employees and suppliers.

5. Our Due Diligence Process

We Take the Following Steps to Ensure Our Supply Chains Are Free from Modern Slavery:

  • Supplier Onboarding: Before engaging any supplier, we request they confirm their commitment to ethical labour practices.
  • Contractual Obligations: Our standard contracts include clauses requiring compliance with all applicable Nigerian labour laws and prohibitions against forced or child labour.
  • Whistleblowing Channel: We provide a confidential reporting channel for anyone to raise concerns about unethical practices.
  • Risk Assessment: We identify higher-risk suppliers (e.g., security, cleaning, construction) and engage them only after satisfactory checks.

6. Risk Assessment

We assess that the risk of modern slavery in our direct operations is low. However, we recognise that certain parts of our supply chain – particularly in facility management, security services, and construction – may pose higher risks due to the nature of the roles involved (e.g., low-paid, casual, or outsourced labour).

We Manage These Risks By:

  • Working only with reputable suppliers who share our values
  • Including anti-slavery clauses in all relevant contracts
  • Encouraging reporting of any suspicious practices

7. Training & Awareness

We Ensure That:

  • Our management team understands the risks of modern slavery
  • Employees involved in procurement are trained on ethical sourcing
  • All staff know how to report concerns via our whistleblowing policy

8. Our Commitments Going Forward

Over the Next 12 Months, Shelternest Realty Commits to:

  • Reviewing and updating our Ethical Procurement Policy
  • Conducting spot checks on higher-risk suppliers
  • Raising awareness of modern slavery risks among staff and partners
  • Developing a simple Supplier Code of Conduct

9. Approval

This statement has been approved by the management of Shelter Nest Realty and will be reviewed annually.
